Things to remember:
- Write out numbers consisting of one or two words (e.g. "fifty," or "two-hundred")
- Punctuation inside quotation marks (i.e. "See you tomorrow," he said. Rather than "See you tomorrow", he said.)
- Unless you're citing something. Then it's "...signed a treaty with the French" (Goodwin).
- Don't begin your essay with a yes or no question like "Have you ever wondered what the most important Constitutional Amendment is?"
- Capitalize constitutional amendments: First Amendment, etc.
- Italicize book titles: History of the Conquest of Mexico
- Put article titles in quotes: "How to Write a Research Introduction"
- Combine sentences when possible: Rather than having a lot of short sentences, combine them with conjunctions to form compound or complex sentences. This makes your paper easier and more enjoyable to read.
